Really the question is, what aren’t you cleaning your Whoop 4.0 more often. If you wear your Whoop constantly (which you should to fully take advantage of it’s ability to provide insights), chances are it’s a little funky. If you give your Whoop a quick sniff, you’ll know its time to give it a cleaning.

How do you clean the Whoop 4.0

Cleaning your Whoop 4.0 and SuperKnit band is a pretty straightforward process. You’ll need access to running water, a mild soap (like Dawn dish soap) and potentially a scrub brush.

Note: you don’t want to use alcohol or harsh chemicals on the Whoop as they can remove coatings or destroy the plastic.

Step 1: Remove Whoop from your wrist

First things first, remove the Whoop from your wrist by opening the clasp on the SuperKnit band. You can perform this action by using the thumb on your opposite hand to pop it open. Once open, slide off your wrist or slide the c-shaped hook off the Whoop.

Step 2: Remove SuperStrap from the whoop

Once the Whoop is off your body, you should remove the SuperKnit band. To do this, slide the C-shaped hook off the body of the Whoop. Then remove the hinged portion by providing slight outward pressure (to get the two points out of their seats).

Step 3: Clean the Whoop device with dish soap

SInce the Whoop is waterproof, it can you right into the sink for cleaning. I like to take some dish soap in my fingers and lather int into the various nooks and crannies of the Whoop device. You can use your fingers to work the soap in or alternatively use a light scrub brush.

Once you’re done washing your Whoop, set it aside to dry. You can also use a paper towel to dry it off (and remove any stubborn dirt).

Note – don’t use a wire brush (you’ll scratch the Whoop) or harsh chemicals (you’ll destroy the plastic)

Step 4: Clean the Whoop SuperKnit Band

Next, perform the same procedure with lathering and rinsing the SuperKnit band. This is important as the strap can contain quite a bit of gross material. Massaging the soap into the band will help penetrate the material, and will require a few rinses to fully remove the soap.

Step 4A (Optional): replace SuperKnit Band

If your SuperKnit strap is beyond saving (or if it’s become too stretched out, consider purchasing a new strap. I generally stick to conservative colors because I wear my Whoop in business situations. If you already have your Whoop disassembled, it’s the perfect time to freshen up the look with a new strap.

Step 5: Wash your wrist

This should be obvious, but I’ll say it anyway – wash your arm where your Whoop normally resides. The Whoop can hold bacteria and dirt against your skin, so take advantage of having it off to clean the underlying skin before putting your Whoop back on.

Step 6: Reassemble your Whoop and SuperKnit band

Now that your wrist is clean and your Whoop & SuperKnit are dry, it’s time to reattach everything. Start by connecting the pins on the arms to the small holes. Make sure the curves of the Whoop body and the arms are facing in opposite directions (when open).

Once the arms are re-installed, slide the c-clasp over the Whoop body. Then slide your wrist through the middle and fold the clasp back over the body. If you did it right, the Whoop logo should be facing you.

Whoop 4.0 after a good cleaning

How often should I clean my Whoop?

This is often a question of the enviroments that you wear your Whoop in and how sweaty you get under your Whoop. At a minimum, I would recommend cleaning your Whoop 4.0 monthly.

How often should I replace my SuperKnit Band?

I would replace your Whoop SuperKnit band at least annually. I generally know it’s time to replace my SuperKnit when the elastic feels stretched out or just looks super faded. You can extend the life of your SuperKnit band by tightening it up (and trimming it) when it becomes a bit stretched out.
