Tags make it easier to locate categories of handwritten content on your reMarkable 2 or reMarkable Paper Pro. The effective use of tags helps me quickly navigate between different types of content and projects.

Tags are your best friend for search on the reMarkable 2

Why should you be interested in tags on the reMarkable?

I’ve been using the reMarkable 2 for at least three years and I am constantly looking for ways to use it more effectively. Tags are a great reMarkable 2 feature that allow you to locate important pages and documents more easily.

What are tags on the reMarkable 2?

Tags on the reMarkable 2 are categorical indicators that can be applied across the device. The handy Tags Menu can allow you to filter documents or pages by these tags. This is actually really important because of the limited ability to search handwritten content on the reMarkable.

Since most people’s content on their reMarkable is in a handwritten form, this information isn’t super searchable (more details on reMarkable search functionality). If you convert your handwritten notes to text, the device’s search function can find it, but only if you’re already in that notebook.

What happens when you want to find a specific kind of content on your reMarkable? Tags are your best option for this sort of search.

What are the two kinds of tags on the reMarkable 2?

How can I use tags to better navigate my reMarkable?

Take a step back and consider what notebooks or documents you often need to navigate to. If there is some commonality among these documents (could be a specific client, project, or type), start by creating a tag that would be applicable to all of these notebooks.

Your reMarkable 2 already allows you to filter documents by notebook, PDF, and eBook, so you don’t need to create specific tags for them.

How can I tag notebooks and pages on reMarkable?

Tagging pages makes them easier to find on the reMarkable 2

To tag a notebook, start on a navigation page (where you can see multiple documents) and perform a long press to bring up the selection menu (indicated by a dark bar across the top of your device). Then click on tag and select an available tag or create a new one. You can perform this same task multiple documents at once by selecting a few and then tagging them.

To tag a specific page – if you are in a notebook, you can press the tag icon on the side menu. Then select a tag or create a new one.

Alternatively, to tag multiple pags within a document, use the side menu to navigate to the Multiple Page view. Then long press one page (to bring up the selection menu) and then select as many pages as you’d like to tag. Click tag at the top and you can tag these pages.

Can I tag documents other than reMarkable notebooks?

Yes! The reMarkable 2 supports tags on notebooks, PDFs, and ebooks.

Do tags work on the reMarkable Connect apps?

Yes! Once you sync your device with Connect, you’ll be able to use the same tags on the smartphone and desktop apps, as well as the website.
