After years of defining the digital paper tablet category, the beloved reMarkable 2 has officially been discontinued and replaced by the brand-new reMarkable Paper Pure.
As someone who has used the reMarkable 2 daily since 2021 for executive work, travel, conference note-taking, and deep-focus planning, this marks a surprisingly emotional transition. The reMarkable 2 wasn’t just another gadget — it became a core part of how I organize ideas, manage projects, and stay focused in a distraction-heavy world.
The good news? The new Paper Pure looks like a serious evolution of the platform.
What Is the reMarkable Paper Pure?
The new reMarkable Paper Pure appears to continue the company’s minimalist philosophy while pushing the hardware and writing experience forward.
A few early highlights from the Paper Pure include:
- Faster responsiveness and reduced writing latency
- Improved paper-like texture and stylus feel
- Longer battery life
- Updated display technology for better readability
- Thinner and lighter overall design
- Continued focus on distraction-free productivity
From the early product materials, it’s clear reMarkable is doubling down on the idea that focused thinking matters more than app overload.

For executives, consultants, writers, researchers, and students, that philosophy is still incredibly compelling.
My Experience Using reMarkable 2 Since 2021
I originally bought the reMarkable 2 in 2021 as a way to reduce distractions during meetings and strategic planning sessions.
What surprised me most wasn’t the handwriting conversion or cloud sync — it was how much better I thought when I removed notifications, Slack, email, and browser tabs from the process.
Over the past several years, I’ve used the reMarkable 2 for:
- Daily handwritten task management
- Conference and trade show note-taking
- International travel organization and backup documents
- Reviewing presentations and PDFs
- Working while in coffee shops or traveling
- Executive planning and meeting preparation
- Brainstorming website and business ideas
- Long-form outlining and writing
I’ve also spent a ridiculous amount of time testing accessories, EMR stylus options, and cases for the device.
The reMarkable 2 became one of the very few devices that actually reduced digital stress instead of increasing it.
Where You Can Still Buy the reMarkable 2
Even though reMarkable has discontinued the device, there are still a few ways to pick one up while inventory lasts.
Amazon
Amazon will likely remain the easiest place to find remaining reMarkable 2 inventory, refurbished units, and accessories over the next several months.
You can also often find:
- Bundle deals
- Third-party cases
- Replacement EMR pens
- Open-box units
eBay & Refurbished Sellers
If you’re comfortable buying used tech, eBay and refurbished electronics marketplaces may become the best source for discounted reMarkable 2 tablets.
This may actually become a very attractive option because:
- The hardware still holds up extremely well (mine is 5+ years old and still my ‘daily driver’)
- Battery life on the reMarkable 2 is excellent
- The writing experience remains fantastic
- Existing accessories and EMR stylus options are abundant
Existing Owners Don’t Need to Panic
One important note: discontinued does not mean obsolete.
The reMarkable 2 is still one of the best focused productivity devices ever made. If you already own one, there’s no immediate reason to replace it unless the new hardware offers features you specifically need.
In fact, I’ll continue using my reMarkable 2 heavily while evaluating the Paper Pure.
What I’ll Be Testing on the Paper Pure
I plan on purchasing and extensively testing the reMarkable Paper Pure over the coming months.
Some areas I’m especially interested in evaluating include:
- Real-world writing feel vs reMarkable 2
- Battery life improvements
- Conference and travel usability
- PDF markup responsiveness
- New folio and accessory ecosystem
- Whether older EMR stylus options remain compatible
- Executive workflow improvements
- Weight and portability for business travel
I’m particularly curious whether the new device maintains the same “invisible technology” feeling that made the reMarkable 2 so special.
Final Thoughts
The reMarkable 2 helped define an entire category of distraction-free digital note-taking. Few devices have stayed in my daily workflow as consistently as it has.
While it’s sad to see the product officially discontinued, the new Paper Pure looks like a promising next chapter.
If reMarkable can preserve the focus-first philosophy while improving responsiveness, portability, and battery life, they may have another winner on their hands.
I’ll be posting hands-on comparisons, productivity tests, travel use cases, and accessory reviews for the Paper Pure soon — so stay tuned. Thought we’ll have to wait a couple weeks because the Paper Pure is still in pre-order status on the reMarkable website.
